For my son’s 8th birthday party, we had a Minecraft themed party. It was so much fun! I am excited to finally share all the details with you. The first game I created was a Minecraft fishing game. It uses clothespins, magnets, and paper clips to catch the fish!

- 3/8″ Dowel rods
- E6000 Glue
- White cardstock
- Cricut Explore (optional)
- Laminator and Pouches
I started by creating the fishing poles. I purchased some 3/8″ dowel rods and cut them to 18 inches. Sand the cut edge so it doesn’t have any rough edges.
Using a drill, I made a hole in one end of the dowel rod. This step is not absolutely necessary, but it makes it so the twine won’t fall off the end while the kids are fishing.
Thread the twine through the drilled hole. Then tie a knot.
I used these little character clothespins because they have a round bottom edge to glue the magnet to, plus a little round circular top end which made it easy to attach the twine to it.

Tie the twine around the round edge at the top of the clothespin and secure with a knot.
Using a strong glue, attach the magnets to the bottom of the clothespins.
Now, that I had the fishing poles done, I needed to create the fish. I found images of the clownfish, raw fish, raw salmon, and pufferfish at Minecraft Wiki. I saved them to my computer and created a PNG with all the images on one page in Photoshop Elements.
Note: If you don’t have Photoshop Elements, you can use a free program like PicMonkey.
I uploaded the image to Cricut Design Space and used the Print then Cut feature to cut out two sets of the fish.
Note: You can easily hand cut out the fish, but this will take you longer than using the Cricut.

I placed all the fish on a laminating sheet face down and placed a large paper clip on each one in the middle before running through my laminator. You can use a little bit of double-sided adhesive to hold the paper clips in place if they are moving around too much. Once they were laminated, I cut around each fish to separate them.
We set up a tub with all the fishing poles.
I created a Let’s Go Fishing sign in Photoshop Elements using images of Steve, the fishing pole, the raw fish, water and grass I found on Minecraft Wiki.
We then put all the fish in a small kid pool and the kids tried to catch the fish using their magnetic poles.
The kids really enjoyed this game. You can have races to see who can catch the most fish the quickest. Or you can have each person try to catch a certain type or color fish. There are lots of variations you can play with this one game. My kids still play with it and create new versions what they have to do.
